Kingdom Shields

In development Real-time strategy PC (Windows)

Only a few are chosen to tame the wilds. Build the keeps that hold the Graymarch together, raise workers, knights, archers, mages and priests, and push the Orcks back into the dark.

The Warden's task

Kingdom Shields is a small, dense real-time strategy game. You are the Warden: the campaign hands you one frontier at a time and asks you to make it hold. Ironwall Keep against the Orcks and their servant Goblins. Blackstone Citadel, besieged from below by something that tunnels. Shadowspire, an old Druid tower gone over to necromancers. Dragonwatch, where the caves are stirring again.

If the walls fail, the monsters devour the land. That is the whole of the pitch, and the campaign map means it.

Built to be played with a mouse

Left-click selects and opens a contextual popup; drag-select takes a group; right-click issues the obvious order for whatever you clicked: move, attack, gather, build, repair. Shift adds to a selection. Nothing is buried in a menu.

Workers gather stone, gold, food and wood and raise the buildings that unlock your army: the Worker's Tent, Barracks Tent, Archer Tower, Mage Circle, Priest's Altar and, because someone has to feed the garrison, the Chicken Coop.

Features

  • Five unit types: workers, knights, archers, mages and priests, each with their own orders.
  • Classic RTS control: drag-select, group commands, contextual right-click, no menu-diving.
  • A campaign of keeps: Ironwall, Blackstone, Shadowspire and Dragonwatch, each with its own briefing.
  • Custom voice acting: every unit answers back, across more than eighty recorded lines.
  • Fog of war and a live minimap: scout it or lose it.
  • A built-in map editor: used to build the campaign, shipping with the game.
