Ethral
Play as a young hero in a retro pixel top-down adventure: explore the land of Ethral, find secrets, conquer dark dungeons, and collect shards to restore the Ethral Pendant to defeat the Pirate King.
Wishlisting is the single biggest thing you can do for a small studio.
The story
You are Alyyn, an orphan of the coastal town of Tidehaven. The royal family has been taken, imprisoned by the vengeful ghost of the Pirate King, whose spectral crew has crawled back out of the water to finish what it started centuries ago.
Freeing them means crossing the whole of Ethral: a hand-built overworld of forests, deserts, mountains and drowned sewers, each hiding a dungeon and each dungeon hiding a shard of the broken Ethral Pendant.
How it plays
Ethral is a classic item-gated adventure in the NES tradition. Every dungeon gives you a tool, and every tool opens a piece of the world you walked past an hour ago. Progression is earned by exploration and attention, not by grinding.
Features
- Nine-plus themed dungeons: each with its own puzzles, keys, map, compass and boss.
- An expansive overworld: multiple biomes, hidden caves and secrets tucked behind the scenery.
- Progressive weapons and items: new gear reopens old ground, classic item-gated progression.
- Retro pixel art: an NES-inspired palette with modern dynamic lighting.
- Full controller support: plus keyboard and mouse.
- 8–12+ hours: of hand-authored single-player adventure.
